Hex Bolts in Dubai

The hex bolt is the workhorse of structural, mechanical and general construction work. Mufaddal Fasteners supplies hex bolts in Dubai in a wide range of sizes, grades, materials and finishes, to DIN, ISO, ASTM and BS standards.

Here is a short guide to the specification points that matter when you order.

Partially threaded or fully threaded?

Partially threaded bolts (DIN 931, ISO 4014) have a plain shank under the head, which carries shear loads well. Fully threaded bolts (DIN 933, ISO 4017) have thread right up to the head, which suits clamping thin parts and use with a nut over the full length. For shear connections in structural steel, choose the version that keeps the shank in the shear plane.

  • DIN 931 / ISO 4014: partially threaded hex bolt
  • DIN 933 / ISO 4017: fully threaded hex bolt (set screw)
  • Heavy hex bolts: larger head for structural use

Grades and materials

Carbon steel hex bolts are commonly supplied in property classes 4.6, 8.8 and 10.9 (ISO 898-1). Stainless steel versions are available in 304 (A2) and 316 (A4). The head of a graded bolt carries its class marking, so you can check it on delivery. Use the grade given in the specification — never substitute a lower class.

How length is measured

Hex bolt length is measured from under the head to the end of the bolt (head not included). When ordering, give the diameter, pitch and length — for example M16 x 2.0 x 80 — plus the grade and finish.

Finishes

Common finishes are plain, zinc-plated, yellow zinc (YZP) and hot-dip galvanised. Choose hot-dip galvanised or stainless for outdoor and humid locations. Note that HDG bolts need nuts that are tapped oversize to allow for the thicker coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a hex bolt and a set screw?
In the DIN/ISO system a fully threaded hex bolt (DIN 933 / ISO 4017) is often called a hex set screw. The difference is the thread length, not the head.
Which hex bolt grade should I choose?
Follow your design specification. 8.8 is a common general-purpose high-strength grade and 10.9 is used where higher loads are expected.
Do you stock stainless steel hex bolts?
Yes, stainless 304 and 316 versions are available. Tell us the size and quantity for a quotation.
