Stainless Steel Fasteners in Dubai

Stainless steel fasteners resist rust far better than plain or plated steel, which makes them the first choice for marine, coastal, washdown and architectural work. Mufaddal Fasteners supplies stainless steel bolts, nuts, screws, washers and threaded rods in 304 and 316 grades in Dubai.

This page explains how to choose between the grades and what to watch for when installing them.

304 (A2) or 316 (A4)?

Grade 304 (also called A2 or 18-8) is the general-purpose stainless steel and performs well in most indoor and mildly corrosive environments. Grade 316 (A4) adds molybdenum, which improves resistance to chlorides such as sea water, de-icing salt and pool chemicals. Near the coast, in marine environments or in chemical areas, choose 316.

Our detailed comparison, written for Dubai's humid climate, is in the guide linked below.

  • 304 / A2: indoor, general use, food areas away from chlorides
  • 316 / A4: marine, coastal, pools, chemical exposure

Strength classes for stainless fasteners

Stainless bolts are marked with a class such as A2-70 or A4-80 (ISO 3506): the letter and number give the steel family and the tensile strength class (70 means 700 MPa minimum, 80 means 800 MPa). Stainless fasteners are generally weaker than 8.8 carbon steel bolts in the common A2-70 class, so do not substitute them in structural joints without checking the design.

Installing stainless fasteners without galling

Stainless threads can seize (gall) when tightened, especially at speed. Reduce the risk by applying an anti-seize or thread lubricant, tightening slowly and avoiding impact tools. Always reduce torque compared with carbon steel bolts and follow the manufacturer's guidance.

Avoiding galvanic corrosion

When stainless steel touches a less noble metal such as aluminium or galvanised steel in damp conditions, the other metal can corrode faster. Use isolating washers or sleeves where dissimilar metals meet outdoors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 316 stainless steel magnetic?
Fully annealed 304 and 316 are non-magnetic, but cold-worked fasteners can show slight magnetism. Magnetism does not by itself indicate poor quality.
Will stainless steel rust in Dubai?
316 resists the humid coastal air very well. 304 can show surface staining near the sea or in chloride-rich locations, so choose 316 there.
Do you supply both 304 and 316?
Yes, materials for each product are listed on its product page. Tell us the grade you need and we will confirm availability.
