Anchor Bolts in Dubai

Anchor bolts connect steel, equipment and services to concrete. Mufaddal Fasteners supplies foundation bolts, wedge anchors, sleeve (shield) anchors, drop-in anchors, fix bolts and chemical studs in Dubai.

The main types of anchor bolt

Foundation bolts (J-, L- and straight bolts with a plate or hook) are cast into fresh concrete for columns, base plates and machinery. Wedge anchors expand against the wall of a drilled hole when tightened and suit heavy-duty fixings in hardened concrete. Sleeve (shield) anchors are lighter-duty expansion anchors. Drop-in anchors are set flush with the surface and take a threaded bolt or rod. Chemical studs bond a threaded rod into the hole with resin for high loads or close-to-edge fixings.

  • Wedge anchors: heavy-duty, through-fixing in concrete
  • Sleeve / shield anchors: medium duty, various base materials
  • Drop-in anchors (unifix): flush internal thread for rods and bolts
  • Foundation bolts: cast in place for base plates and columns
  • Chemical studs: highest loads, close edge distances

Choosing the right one

The decision depends on the load (tension, shear or both), whether the load is static or vibrating, the concrete strength and whether it may crack, the edge distance and spacing between anchors, and the corrosion environment. Check the manufacturer's data for embedment depth and rated loads — never rely on the bolt size alone.

Installation basics

Drill to the specified diameter and depth, clean the hole thoroughly of dust, place the anchor to the correct embedment depth and tighten to the recommended torque. Poor hole cleaning is one of the most common reasons anchors do not reach their rated load, especially for chemical anchors.

Corrosion protection

In humid or coastal conditions choose hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel anchors. For interior dry locations, zinc-plated anchors are normally enough. If the anchor will be exposed to chlorides (such as pool areas or the coast), stainless 316 is preferable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a wedge anchor and a sleeve anchor?
Both expand in a drilled hole, but a wedge anchor uses a clip that expands against the hole wall and is rated for heavier loads in solid concrete, while a sleeve (shield) anchor uses a full-length sleeve and suits lighter loads and a wider range of base materials.
How deep should an anchor go?
The embedment depth is set by the anchor manufacturer's data for the size and load. Always follow it and never shorten the hole.
Can I reuse an anchor?
Expansion anchors are generally not reusable once set and removed. Use a new anchor to keep the rated load.
